Who We Are

Forgotten Harvest is looking for long-term volunteers to aid in our mission to relieve hunger and prevent nutritious food waste in metro Detroit. The ideal long-term volunteer will be available to help out 2+ hours a week, for at least 6 – 12 months. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

What We Do

Gardener - 8 Mile Warehouse

Forgotten Harvest is looking for volunteers who are passionate about gardening. We are looking for volunteers to take on the task of maintaining the flower beds and trees on our property. 

Duties may include:

  • planting flowers
  • shrubs
  • watering plants
  • weeding
  • mulching
  • pruning 

Forgotten Harvest will provide the tools and materials, if you will provide your time and talent!

Link2Feed

This opportunity will allow volunteers to work with our partner agencies and clients to help launch a new program called Link2Feed. Link2Feed is an intake program set up to learn more about the needs, stories, and demographics of people that are receiving food from Forgotten Harvest’s 260+ agency partners.

Volunteers will help train, onboard, and support agencies in their use of Link2Feed.

Volunteer will conduct client intake on site at our partner agencies and/or may assist with data entry for client intake forms into Link2Feed.

Speakers Bureau 

The Forgotten Harvest Speakers Bureau is a unique volunteer opportunity that provides community members who are dedicated to our mission with an opportunity to share our work with the broader community.

Volunteers will attend community events throughout Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties to provide information about and advocacy for Forgotten Harvest. Events may include volunteer fairs, speaking opportunities, and other opportunities as they arise.

Facilities Department 

The volunteer handyperson will assist and carry out minor repairs and maintenance of property, furnishings, and equipment. All of the tools and materials will be provided by Forgotten Harvest.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Previous experience with basic maintenance tasks desired
  • Knowledge in carpentry, painting, plumbing, etc.
  • Good problem-solver and detailed-oriented
  • Good time management
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Must be flexible and reliable
